The Bay of Fires is a bay on the northeastern coast of Tasmania in Australia. It stretches from the Binalong Bay to the Eddystone Point. The northern section of the Bay, from north of the outlet of Ansons Bay to Eddystone Point lies within the Mt William National Park. The middle part of the Bay of Fires is situated in the vicinity of Ansons Bay. The southern portion of The Bay of Fires, in the Conservation Area is located in between the Binalong Bay and The Gardens and covering 13 km along the coast.
The Bay got its title from Captain Tobias Furneaux who named it after seeing fires of the Aboriginal people of the beaches. This made him realize that it was a heavily populated country. Sufficient evidence of Aboriginal people can be seen along the coast even to this day confirming this occupation.
It is no big deal for The Bay to attract guests every year because it is nature's magnificence. The beauty of the white beaches and the azure waters is unparalleled and a lovely sight to behold and being itself a region of white beaches, blue water and orange-hued granite, travelers love the beautiful scenery it showcases.
This bay is the number one choice for nature lovers especially travellers and international guests. When the walking season ends in May each year, the award-winning Bay of Fires Lodge remains open for guests to visit. Accomodation here on the east coast of Tasmania is limited and insufficient because it is remote due to poor development. Accomodation consists of cottages and bungalows and are referred to as shacks by the local people.
Life on the Bay of Fires is not devoid of fun. But quite opposite, it is complete entertainment with activities like camping, beach activities, boating, bird watching, fishing, swimming, surfing and walking. Visitors are guided not to disturb the protected sites in the sand dunes where shell and bone deposits exist.
Accommodations however could offer some sort of a challenge in view of the low rate of development of the area.
